Flats for elderly residents will be built in Benfleet after Castle Point's planning committee voted unanimously in favour of the plans.
The proposals are to construct a three-storey building with 27 sheltered accommodation flats in High Road.
The block of flats will consist of ten one-bedroom units and 17 two-bedroom flats as well as an office, residents' lounge and kitchen.
There will also be 17 on-site parking spaces, a further three along the access road for general use plus two refuse areas.
The conditions of the approved plans include the developers contributing £15,000 towards affordable housing in the borough and installing CCTV cameras at the property.
