Former Spurs star Justin Edinburgh is staying as manager of Billericay Town - but long-serving player Russell Penn is leaving.

Edinburgh tendered his resignation after Saturday's 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Northwood - Town's 15th reverse in 21 Ryman Premier starts this season.

But chairman Rod Moore refused to accept his decision and Edinburgh confirmed last night that he will be in charge for Saturday's FA Trophy match against Dr Martens Eastern Division high-fliers Kings Lynn.

Edinburgh admitted: "Saturday was definitely the lowest point of my career in football.

"Throughout my career I was never the most gifted player, but I like to think I made up for that in never giving in. Personal pride was major part of my game and I was deeply hurt by the attitude of some of my players on Saturday.

"I didn't think it hurt them enough that we'd performed so disastrously and I let my heart rule my head by offering my resignation.

"I'm grateful to Rod now that he told me to go away and think about things for a couple of days. I did that, spoke to family and friends in the game, and I'm no quitter."

Moore admitted his delight at Edinburgh's change of heart, saying: "People must remember that this is Justin's first taste of management and he's had only 21 league games."
