Staff and pupils celebrate a good Ofsted report for The Alec Hunter High School, Braintree
Inspectors noted the 'remarkable' improvement in attendance at The Alec Hunter High School, Stubbs Lane.
The report stated: "A year ago it was poor but now, as a result of the school's rigorous efforts, attendance is good."
The inspection was carried out in the second week of September, just after the children had started a new term.
Stephen Wyatt, headteacher, said: "It is very pleasing and shows the school is continuing to do well.
"We will be able to use it to help the school improve further to continue to raise standards."
It also took in to account the extended absence of senior staff due to serious illness for adversely affecting attainment at the school however, the school managed to maintain a satisfactory standard of education.
The school has an electronic truancy system, which calls parents and leaves messages when there is no authorisation for the absence.
