Banner-waving protesters cheered with delight after controversial plans for a block of flats on Canvey seafront were thrown out.
Emotions ran high as more than 400 protesters packed the public gallery at Castle Point Council's planning committee objecting to plans for 32 flats on Lubbins car park.
They demanded a leisure facility instead of the proposed housing.
