The leisure suite boasting a top-of-the-range gym and improved changing facilities is being built as an extension to the sports hall at the college, in Kiln Road, Thundersley.

The construction work is being carried out by Colchester based-firm RG Carter and college bosses hope for it to be completed by early next year.

Sonia Bailey, head of sports and leisure faculty at the college, said: "The development will be of huge benefit to the local community.

"It will mean that Seevic College can provide improved opportunities for those wishing to study aspects of sport and leisure, while members of the public will have a welcoming place to work-out."

The Evening Echo revealed back in May how Seevic College has been chosen as one of only two Sixth Form Colleges in the country to be awarded initial Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) status for Sports and Leisure.

As part of this process, the college is creating the new fitness centre which will be run on a commercial basis to provide work experience for students and will be open to staff and students and the local community.
