Three remarkable Brentwood residents who have potentially saved hundreds of lives were paid a special tribute at an awards ceremony.
The National Blood Service honoured the trio who were among 64 lifesavers honoured because they have donated blood on at least 75 occasions.
Mrs Deirdre Belton, of Ingrave, Mr Derek May, of Hutton and Miss Margaret McDonald from Warley each received an Edinburgh crystal plate in recognition of their 75 donations.
The annual ceremony at Stockbrook Manor Golf and Country Club, Stock, welcomed three special guests who believe they owe their lives to blood donors.
Essex residents Lloyd Scott, Hurcan Mustafa and Anthony Crow gave moving personal accounts of how blood donations have saved their lives.
A spokesman for the National Blood Service said: "The awards ceremony is a small token to mark the selfless life saving actions of each of the donors."
The service says most people aged between 17 and 60 (17 and 70 for regular donors) could probably give blood.
