Braintree MP Alan Hurst has accused the county council of not keeping its word over the reopening of Chapel Hill School.
Essex County Council has said the earliest the Braintree primary school could reopen is 2007/08, while in May it renewed its pledge to reopen the school by the end of 2005.
The county education department said fresh data showed a decline in the birth rates in Braintree would result in a reduction in the number of children coming into primary schools.
Mr Hurst said: "I am disappointed that the county council has not kept their word.
"They have yet again delayed their proposed opening date for Chapel Hill School, completely contrary to what they previously said."
Essex County Council said it is committed to keeping the site available for reopening in the future
