A host of well-known television stars will be kick-starting the new spring season at the Mercury Theatre.

Mini-series stalwarts such as Stephanie Cole and Gwen Taylor along with ex-EastEnders stars Louise Jameson and Michael Greco are just some of the big names coming to the Colchester theatre for two of its opening productions.

The season starts on February 16 with The Shell Seekers.

Based on the blockbuster novel by Rosamunde Pilcher, it deals with three generations of one family and the passions and heartbreak which has held them together over the years.

Starring Stephanie Cole, of Tenko, Waiting for God and A Bit of A Do, former Dr Who sidekick Louise Jameson and Peak Practice's Julia Hills, the play will run for a week until February 21.

Following The Shell Seekers the next big touring production taking place at the theatre will be the comedy thriller, About Alice.

From the pen of Charles Laurence, About Alice features some of Britain's best-loved stars including A Bit of A Do's Gwen Taylor, Michael Greco, formerly Beppe in EastEnders, and Francis Matthews who many will recognise as Dr Alway in Heartbeat and The Royal.

A tale of art and intrigue the play runs in the town from March 3 to 13. Booking for both shows is now open on 01206 573948 while the rest of the Mercury's spring season, including the Mercury Theatre Company's own shows, will be launched with the new brochure next month.
