Fundraisers have taken another step towards opening a day care centre for sick children in Colchester.
The team, headed by grandmother Ellen Daniels, has bought a £200,000 property in Straight Road. It could be up and running by March.
The purchase is a fundraising victory for Mrs Daniels, who has long dreamed of opening a facility for sick youngsters.
She launched a £1 million appeal 12 years ago and, with the help of local people and two charity shops, has topped the £310,000 mark.
Mrs Daniels said: "Lots of people thought it was a pipe dream. We have all worked hard. It has been a team effort."
Volunteers hope the centre will cater for six children with a variety of needs at any one time, with under-fives during the day and slightly older ones after school, he added.
