Controversial proposals to create a new waste site in Basildon today provoked former Labour council leader John Potter to attack Tory pledges.
Mr Potter was incensed to hear the Conservatives were considering Courtauld Road, in Pitsea, for a major waste facility covering Thurrock to Southend.
He said: "This is a disgraceful U-turn by the Tories."
