The first section of the new dual carriageway of the A120 is to be opened ahead of schedule.
Essex County Council announced today that the stretch of road between Stansted and Braintree will be officially opened on Monday, December 15, a month early.
The four-mile length of the dual carriageway connects a new junction to the west of Dunmow with the section at Stansted, which was completed earlier this year.
Westbound traffic can gain access to the airport, continue to join the M11 south at junction eight via the recently completed slips or travel through Priory Wood Roundabout to gain access to Birchanger Roundabout for Bishop's Stortford and the M11 north.
Eastbound traffic from Birchanger Roundabout will join the new A120 along the exit currently signposted of the airport.
The remainder of the scheme is due to open in summer 2004 when the A120 between Stansted and Braintree will become a trunk road.
