Fed-up workers vowed to fight on after talks to end four weeks of strike action over terms and conditions of employment collapsed.

Workers at York International in Gardiners Lane South, Basildon, went on strike for a third time on Friday and a further walkout is scheduled for this week.

They are calling for guarantees the nine-hour overtime clause will not be removed from their work agreement.

A senior union steward said: "We met with bosses on Wednesday and thought we were somewhere near a resolution. We were hoping a proposal could be put forward to the men that day to be balloted on Thursday. But unfortunately the talks collapsed."
