The first section of the new A120 between Stansted and Braintree has been opened.
The seven kilometre stretch of the two-lane dual carriageway connects a new junction west of Dunmow with the Stansted section and onwards to the M11.
Essex County Council chairman Tony Peel cut the ribbon this morning, heralding a quieter life for villagers along the existing road in Little Canfield and Takeley.
The remainder of the 24 kilometre route will open in the summer when the A120 becomes a trunk road and is taken over by the Highways Agency.
