Plans for 50 flats on Canvey are set to be given the green light by councillors tonight in the face of fierce opposition by protesters.
Residents believe the site at 35 Long Road should be a protected nature reserve and not made into another housing development.
The council has received several letters against the plans from residents concerned the development will mean extra traffic, pollution and won't include enough parking.
Campaigner Terry Sessions of Waarden Road said: "The meeting should be very interesting. We hope of course that the plans are thrown out.
"What is being planned is disgusting. Badgers have been seen over there. I hope nothing can be done because of them, at least not without an investigation."
The meeting will be held at 7.30pm tonight at the council offices in Kiln Road, Thundersley.
