A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died.

The 28-year-old man died after suffering wounds from a broken bottle. The incident happened in Guithavon Street, Witham, off Newland Street, the town's main road.
It is believed the victim, who is from the town, was walking home after a night out. He was found in the street at 12.30am yesterday and was rushed to Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, suffering serious wounds to the chest and abdomen, but he later died in hospital.
A broken bottle believed to have caused the fatal injury was found at the scene. The incident happened outside two churches which face each other on opposite sides of Guithavon Street.
A 24-year-old went to Witham police station yesterday afternoon and was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was today still being questioned in connection with the incident. Officers from the Essex Police scientific forensic unit carried out an in-depth search of the area.
