A Southend MP says the Iraqi people must administer justice to Saddam Hussein or risk turning him into a hero.

Rochford and Southend East Conservative MP, Sir Teddy Taylor, whose son, John, has just returned from a tour of duty in Iraq, said: "Justice must be administered by the Iraqis themselves and not by the Americans or the British, or he could become some kind of local hero.

"It is quite obvious Saddam's special friends and relatives have decided to go for the offer of money the Americans made, and you can understand that.

"I just hope the Iraqis will be able to take over things now. He was one of the worst rulers there ever was."
