Long-suffering commuters could be set for a boost as rail companies plan to spend up to £2million totally redeveloping a busy railway station.

Under proposals put forward by train operators c2c, the company would join forces with railway infrastructure owners Network Rail in demolishing Pitsea station and rebuilding it.

A new booking hall, waiting area and retail unit are all expected to be built at the station, in Station Approach, by the spring of 2005. A c2c spokesman said: "We have allocated £1million of funding.

"Work would begin next year and be completed by April 2005."
