Colchester United's acting captain Karl Duguid is determined to avenge a 42-year injustice when the U's walk into the FA Cup lions' den at giant-killers Accrington Stanley early in the New Year.

And his Layer Road boss Phil Parkinson has promised to pull out all the stops to make sure the high-flying Nationwide Conference club do not become another U's embarrassment.

Karl Duguid in action

It was in January 1962 when the U's last played Accrington in competitive action.

Colchester completed a notable double only to have the Fourth Division championship snatched from their grasp by a single point as the northerners' record was expunged on their resignation from the Football League before the end of the season.

The teams are set to meet again for the first time since then following Accrington's dramatic penalty shoot-out win over Second Division Bournemouth in last night's FA Cup second round replay.

And when they turn the clock back on Saturday, January 3, Duguid promised: "We'll really owe them one, big time!

"They've done well to see off two League clubs - Huddersfield and Bournemouth - in the opening rounds, but that can't go on.

"Their luck's got to run out soon and we'd better make sure we're not another to get giant-killed. It would be nice if the game is shown live on TV."
