A new housing scheme that would provide an £80,000 boost to a nearby environmental area has been given the thumbs-up.
Tendring Council approved outline permission for the Colchester and East Essex Co-op to build houses in Main Road, Dovercourt.
The plan would involve losing about 25 spaces at Fiveway's car park and widening the entrance to the superstore.
There would also be a legal agreement that the Co-op would have to provide £80,000 towards The Hangings, an area of open land next to the proposed site.
At least a fifth of the site would have to be affordable housing, there would be a playground next to The Hangings and a new bus shelter in Main Road.
The site is between King Georges Avenue, Patricks Lane, Main Road and The Hangings.
