A teenager was today fighting for her life in hospital following a road accident.

The 15-year-old girl was walking to a friend's house when she was involved in a collision with a car.

She was today said to be in a "critical" condition at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London.

A police spokesman said the girl was walking along Thorrington Road, Great Bentley, to a friend's home at 5.30pm on Monday, when she was involved in a collision with a white Ford Fiesta.

She was rushed to Colchester General Hospital but was later transferred to Oldchurch Hospital in Romford. She was then moved to an intensive care unit at Great Ormond Street in London.

Both the girl and the 43-year-old driver of the car come from Great Bentley.

The police spokesman appealed for anyone who may have seen the collision, the girl or the car prior to the crash to contact PC Robin Rush at Stanway traffic police on 01206 762512.
