During his final years at school Adam Leveridge, 16, was only able to manage around one hour's worth of lessons a day because of the tumour which took over a third of his brain.
Yet remarkable Adam of Linburg Way, Canvey, was still able to achieve six Cs and above in his GCSEs last summer at the island's Cornelius Vermuyden school.
Yesterday, his outstanding effort and bravery was marked by staff at his former school who awarded him the Princess Diana Memorial Trust award for the tremendous effort.
Motor sport enthusiast Adam said: "I worked really, really hard for my exams, but the school was really good and really supported me and my family."
A spokesman at Cornelius Vermuyden in Dinant Avenue said: "He was nominated for the award because of the way he has faced his illness with remarkable bravery."
