Southend United midfielder Jamie Fullarton has resumed training following a frustrating seven-week spell on the sidelines with a groin injury.

Jamie Fullarton - back in training

The return of the battling central midfielder is a boost for Blues injury-hit squad ahead of a spell where suspensions will hit the revitalised squad hard.

Fullarton has not suffered any ill affects from the injury yet and is keen to fight his way back into the first team.

"It's not feeling too bad at the moment," said the former Brentford battler.

"I've joined in with the rest of the lads so far this week and, touch wood, everything feels OK at the moment."

Fullarton has been working closely with club physiotherapist John Stannard and was delighted to be back in action earlier than originally expected.

"It's great to be back out there -- especially as it's ahead of schedule," he said.

"When I first suffered the injury I was expecting to be out for around 12 weeks but it's only been seven so far, so hopefully I can continue to make good progress."
