Canvey's Dion Macfayden won the Stanford Beach Open at the weekend -- but the golden peg prize rolled over yet again and now stands at £690.

"I had a bad first hour but then caught two or three fish a cast," said Macfayden, who landed 21 fish (19 flounders, two whiting) for a 621cm total at the catch-and-release match.

Craig Gore of Shoebury was second with 19 flounders to 564cm and Southend's Stuart Tanner finished third on 449cm (15 flounders, one smelt).

Ian Reynolds of South Benfleet was fourth (15 flounders to 431cm) and fifth was Southend's Gary Lloyd (14 flounders to 404cm).

There was a tie for longest fish of the day with Grays' Dougie Barnbook and Terry Knott of Shoebury each catching a 37cm flounder.

The next match action is at Canvey on Friday.

Booking for the golden peg contest is at the front entrance of Thorney Bay Caravan Park from 7.30pm with fishing 8.30-11.30pm.
