An investigation into Philip Morant's English results found its key stage three tests did not reflect the "unaided" and "independent" work of pupils.
The key stage three results were unveiled yesterday and the Colchester school and college got a zero in its English results.
The school and the Government were both tight-lipped about the situation saying the results had been annulled and were under review.
But the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA), which oversees the running of the tests, today told how an investigation was carried out into Philip Morant's English tests
A spokesman for the authority, said: "QCA carried out an investigation into the administration of the tests at Philip Morant school in 2003.
"That investigation concluded that the key stage three test results in English did not reflect the unaided and independent work of the pupils and those results were annulled."
School headteacher Russell Moon, who was yesterday in talks with officials from the Department for Education and Skills, said he would now be in touch with QCA.
