The family of a teenage girl who died in a car accident have paid tribute to their "wonderful" daughter.

Amy Field, 15, of Great Bentley, died on Wednesday afternoon in Great Ormond Street Hospital's intensive care unit.

She had been critically injured following the accident at 5.30pm on Monday.

Amy was walking to a friend's house when she was involved in an accident with a white Ford Fiesta car in Thorrington Road, where she lives.

Amy's mother Sue and step-father Jeff Hierons said yesterday: "Her loss has been devastating to her family and friends. We will miss her wisecracks and sense of fun. She was just a really wonderful girl."

They added: "Her greatest love was animals. She always helped others in any way she could. She helped out with the local Scout group and was a very active member. Her latest achievement was taking part in a sponsored swim on the Sunday before she died, which was in aid of the Essex Air Ambulance."

Amy was born with her twin brother Robert in the village.

She went to Colne Community School, Brightlingsea, and enjoyed after-school activities and sport, including rounders and trampolining.

After the accident, Amy was taken to Colchester General Hospital and then transferred to Oldchurch Hospital in Romford. She was later moved to an intensive care unit at Great Ormond Street.

Witnesses should call PC Robin Rush at Stanway traffic police on 01206 762512
