Police were hunting two youngsters who startled motorists after they threw stones at passing cars in a busy road.
The boys hit a car which was travelling through Deanery Hill, Braintree, on New Year's Day at about 12.20pm.
The female motorist pulled over and was left shaken after the young vandals caused £100 worth of damage to her car.
Braintree police said the youths made off on bicycles and were aged between 12 and 14 years old.
