Canvey Football Club could quit the island if it cannot move to a bigger ground in the area, councillors have been warned.

Castle Point highways and leisure committee unanimously backed the club's plans to relocate to Waterside Farm, Somnes Avenue, Canvey and build a new stadium there.

The club is poised for promotion to the Conference - one step below the football league.

Deputy chairman of the committee Norman Bambridge said: "The club is very serious about the current state of their achievements, but they will consider moving outside the borough."
