Controversial plans to build 150 homes on a flood plain have been unveiled.

The developer is seeking outline permission for the development on land between Colchester's Leisure Centre and the former Bypass Nurseries.

The land is on a flood plain between the River Colne and Cowdray Avenue, and is in the local plan as open space.

Previous plans for the site have been rejected by Colchester Council and gone to appeal.

Persimmon Homes and the site owners have applied for permission for a proposed residential development, public open space, riverside walk and associated access.

It will link in with the development at the former Bypass Nurseries, which the applicants have planning permission for homes.
