Rochford Hundred ace Richard Barnbrook's rich vein of form continued when he led the weekend qualifiers in the AA Thornton.
Barnbrook, who won the club's Division 1 medal last month, stormed to glory on Saturday with 68-3=65. Peter Davies (96-28=68), Darren Lee (73-4=69) and Dick Clarke (78-8=70) also won through to the knockout stage.
An eagle on the par 4 14th, two birdies and 14 pars saw Barnbrook to three-under gross and a one shot handicap cut.
Lee had 14 pars and a birdie while Clarke recovered well after dropping four shots in the first two holes to notch 11 pars and a birdie. Davies enjoyed two pars.
Sunday's playing conditions were a lot tougher but Paul Green (81-10=71) led the qualifying quartet of Bob Semaine (83-12=71), Ken Trusler (91-20=71) and Mike Davill (84-12=72).
Green fired nine pars and a birdie while Semaine shot seven pars. Trusler had five pars with Davill bagging a birdie and seven pars.
Thorpe Hall Ladies' nine-hole Fourball betterball Stableford attracted a field of 32 and went to H Morgan and P Keeble on 17 points from J Crocker and P Tyrer (16).
