Fans' favourite Alan White is hoping he will be the man to lead Colchester United's push for promotion.

The no-nonsense defender wants to slip on the captain's armband following Tuesday's injury to recently-appointed skipper Karl Duguid.

"I hope to finish the season on a high and will be looking to lead the guys into it," said White.

Duguid, along with Scott McGleish, suffered medial ligament injuries to their right knees in the Nationwide League Second Division 2-1 win over Stockport County at Layer Road.

Duguid was made club captain last month before suffering the injury which could see him miss the next six matches. McGleish is facing a similar lay-off.

Club physio Stuart Ayles said: "We can't tell how badly injured they are until the assessment nearer the game, but it could be four to five weeks until they are fit again."
