An angry motorist is on the road to nowhere - as the pavement outside his house is higher than his driveway.

Clive Jones, of Frinton Road, Kirby, said the problem had arisen since repairs were carried out on the pavement outside his house.

The walkway is now more than two inches higher than his driveway and he struggles to get his car out.

Mr Jones said: "The pavement is nearly three inches above the forecourt and it will do damage to my car. It is already knocking the air out of the tyres every time I drive over.

"It is a hazard and who will be responsible if someone gets hurt because they have fallen?"

But Tendring Council said it had carried out work to let Mr Jones drive his car out of his drive, but it was rejected.

The problems began when work started on Frinton Road and the existing pathway outside Mr Jones's house was covered over with an extra layer of surfacing.

After complaining to Tendring Council, engineers installed a ramp in Mr Jones' driveway.

But Mr Jones said this only made the problem worse.

Mike Page, a spokesman for Tendring Council, said: "We have done exactly what he asked.

"The footpath runs for almost 600 metres past 44 homes and we have been only too happy to make up the difference to leave a neat job in order to overcome any problems of unevenness with existing garden levels."
