Sixty years of married life has taught John Plummer, 82, how to avoid getting a plate smashed over his head.

He revealed the secret while celebrating his diamond wedding anniversary to wife Sarah in Leigh yesterday.
Laughing he said: "Never argue with the wife while you're in the kitchen.
"It was back in the 50s and I was working with the ambulance service.
"I'd had trouble with the trains getting back from Canvey and I arrived home in a right mood.
"We had a row, in the kitchen and then I'd turned my back on her - and I got the plate broken over me nut."
John had celebrated his 22nd birthday on February 10 when he married the woman he has always called Sally.
Four children were born between 1947 and 1953 and the couple now have ten grand children and two great-grand children.
The couple entertained them at a party in the Camelia Hotel on Eastern Esplanade.
