Residents can carry on getting advice on their money and benefits after the future of a vital service was secured.
The financial advice service Impact has been given £60,000 by Basildon Council to offer welfare services over the next three years. The Pitsea-based organisation depends on council funding for its survival.
Lee Ogilvy-Webb of Impact said: "We are so relieved. The advisory services generally were put out to tender and we were given the welfare services part of that."
Labour leader Paul Kirkman said: "I am fully in support of Impact. They do some fantastic work. "They will do well and will serve the people of Basildon well.
"But I am concerned the Citizens Advice Bureau service will be affected. Impact specialises in welfare rights but the CAB is like a general practicioner that makes sure people get advice on all sorts of things."
