Hundreds of pounds of damage has been caused to centres in Billericay and Noak Bridge after a wrecking spree by 'mindless vandals'

The vandalism to a cricket pavilion in Lake Meadows and the Noak Bridge Community Hall has caused misery to residents, according to community leaders.

More than £1,000 of damage was caused to the pavilion after vandals kicked a garage door in and smashed windows and £500 of damage was caused to the hall in Coppice Lane, after windows were broken.

Now community leaders are urging residents to be on the look out for any suspicious behaviour around the areas to prevent any further damage.

Basildon Council's parks manager, Russell Ward, is asking people with information on the Lake Meadows attack to step forward.

He said:"The garage door was kicked in, windows smashed and boards ripped apart in a concerted attack that must have lasted several minutes."

The attack happened between 4pm on Saturday, February 21, to 8am on Sunday, February 22.

Council officers are currently asking residents in Lakeside and Knightsbridge Road if they heard or saw anything.

Noak Bridge Community Association chairman, Terri Sargent, said she is 'disgusted' at the damage caused the hall on Friday, February 27.

She said: "The damage is an absolute eyesore. This is going to cost in the region of £500 to repair and it is the association that will have to pick up the bill."

Anyone with further information is urged to call Basildon Police on 01268 532212.
