Colchester MP Bob Russell is buoyed up about the future of Colchester.

Following his meeting with transport minister David Jamieson, Mr Russell said: "I'm more confident and optimistic than I've ever been that the final pieces of the jigsaw are now falling into place.

"Most of it Is there now and there are a few more bits to put in place."

He said there had been a lot of work done on the complicated plans, and the completion of the northern approaches road was crucial to the future of the town.

The meeting also involved representatives of Colchester Council, and Essex Council.

Mr Russell said there had been no disagreements about the future of the A12 junction.

Plans for a huge development include a new stadium for Colchester United, 1,500 homes at Severalls Hospital, new employment areas at Cuckoo Farm, a new east/west link road and a new A12 junction.
