Action is to be taken to avert a future homelessness crisis in Castle Point.
It has been decided a successful partnership which the borough council runs with private companies to provide housing will be expanded and new partners will be brought in.
At present, only Glaredawn Housing Ltd leases property to Castle Point Council, which sub-lets the homes to homeless people.
However, council officers have been worried that there could potentially be a serious homelessness problem if the relationship with Glaredawn Housing were to come to an end.
It was also recommended that the council should try to find more short-term bed and breakfast accommodation in which to place homeless people while they were waiting for more suitable accommodation to become available.
