A teacher in Colchester is celebrating after retrieving her passport from the Home Office, meaning she can visit her critically-ill mother in Canada.
Mother-of-two Tara Haddrell had felt like a virtual prisoner in the UK after repeated attempts to get her passport returned over two years failed.
But after highlighting her situation on television and in newspapers, the passport came straight back to her home, in Falcon Crescent, New Town, with a letter of apology.
The 37-year-old, who lives with husband Nick, a teacher at Hamilton Primary School, off Maldon Road, Colchester, and daughters Claudine, two, and Maisie, six months, said: "I could not believe it, really."
