Fears of a potential air disaster have been growing among anxious residents after the lights illuminating the tall radio mast in Kelvedon Hatch went out.
After the tower, in Station Road, was left in darkness for nearly two weeks, BT said work was underway to get the lights fixed with further plans being made to ensure there is no repeat of the problems.
BT added that it had taken steps to make sure any aircraft flying in the area was aware of the mast.
Cllr Derek Hardy, who lived in Kelvedon Hatch, was contacted by some eagle eyed residents who spotted the two red lights, used to warn low flying aircraft that the tower is there, did not come on after a short power cut in the area.
He described it as "a fatal accident situation waiting to happen" and said he had been in touch with not only BT but also the Area Health and Safety Executive, the police, fire and rescue service and radio communications agency to try and find an answer.
A spokesman for BT said the communication giants had not received any complaints about the mast but apologised for any concerns residents had experienced.
