And the team of retro-sleuths will be on the trail of a medieval quay.

They will be leading digs in several back gardens, the site of the old village medieval market and in the unconsecrated part of the churchyard.

It is hoped the team will be able to date the quay and trace the medieval development of the village, in particular in Mill Street.

The notion of a medieval quay in the creek was first mooted by the chairman of St Osyth Historical Society, Alan Williams.

A chance meeting between Mr Williams and one of the directors of Time Team led to the researchers visiting the village - and the rest is history.
