Safety checks are being carried out at a school branded a risk to pupils by its own governors.

Education chiefs are sending in a team of experts to carry out an inspection of St Andrew's Junior School in Colchester after a damning report by governor John Wood.

On Monday, the Evening Gazette exclusively revealed the catalogue of safety hazards at the Greenstead school.

Some anxious parents threatened to pull children out of classes over fears about electrical wiring, leaking roofs and rooms with no fire exits.

Inspectors from County Hall were due to visit the school today to carry out emergency safety checks.
