The Colchester branch of an insurance company is to close, meaning 20 job losses for the town.

Troubled mutual insurer, Standard Life, is cutting 360 jobs nationwide in a move to reorganise its direct sales force.

It intends to cut the number of direct sales branches from 21 to 11, and one of the ten branches to shut is in Colchester's Headgate.

The company has confirmed the 20 employees will lose their jobs and the work will be moved to the Cambridge and Watford branches.

Announcing the restructuring, Nathan Parnaby, managing director of sales, said: "By having three dedicated direct business units, each with a focus on efficient sales growth in their respective markets, our aim is to secure the future of our direct sales operations."
