Mid Essex could have new hi-tech health services on its doorstep.
Chelmsford's Broomfield Hospital will table multi-million pound bids for a neonatal intensive care centre and a radiotherapy unit at Monday's board meeting.
Patients needing treatment would not have to make long journeys across the county or to London if the Mid-Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust proposals are backed.
Chief executive of the Trust Andrew Pike said: "We're pleased with the quality of both bids that the hospital is submitting. We're hopeful they will be well received and if successful will be of great benefit to the local community and the outer population of Essex."
The Trust will go up against Basildon, Ipswich and London to get the neonatal service by submitting its draft bid by next Friday
The unit would have ten cots and four high-dependency cots to meet the county's requirements for intensive care babies.
