A workman suffered potentially serious head injuries when he plunged from scaffolding at a secondary school.
He was knocked unconscious after tumbling 10ft outside King John School, in Shipwrights Drive, Thundersley.
He fell at 9am when pupils would normally have been filing into class.
Ambulance spokesman Murray McGregor said: "Two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle were sent to the scene.
"The man was treated by them. He was unconscious at first but eventually came round."
The man was taken to Southend Hospital to be checked over for potential head and other injuries.
