Footballer Gavin Cowan was eyeing-up a dream double today after blasting his team into a showcase final at Premiership ground Villa Park.
Gavin Cowan in action for Canvey Island
Colchester-based Cowan, who plays for non-league heavyweights Canvey Island, was on target in a nail-biting penalty shoot-out as his side booked their place in the FA Trophy final on May 23.
Cowan kept his cool from the spot as Canvey beat Telford United 4-2 on Saturday their two-legged semi-final finished 2-2 on aggregate to set-up a showdown with Hednesford Town.
And, to cap what could become a dream double, the Islanders are closing in on championship glory at the top of the Ryman League premier division.
Cowan's charges are ten points clear with four games in hand on nearest challengers Hendon.
The former Braintree Town skipper told the Evening Gazette: "This season has undoubtedly been the highlight of my career.
"We're cruising in the league and now we've got a magical day to look forward to at Aston Villa.
"It was an incredible feeling to book our place in the final, especially as I scored what turned out to be the decisive penalty."
