Youngsters on school holidays are the suspected culprits for a spate of burglaries and vandalism on garages in Galleywood.
Police have had 12 incidents involving garages around Barnard Road and Dorset Avenue reported since Sunday and estimate up to £1000 of damage has been caused.
Police spokeswoman, Dawn Clark, said: "We believe this may just be the tip of the iceberg and some of them haven't been discovered yet.
"We are urging people that if you're in the area report these incidents. We have no suspects at the moment and no-one has been seen doing this damage.
"We are not aware of many items being stolen so it may just be youths on holiday. Until we get more information we are at a loss," Miss Clark added.
Anyone who sees people tampering with garages to contact Chelmsford police on 01245 491212.
