A minibus service for Colchester's disabled is being launched by a former coach operator.
John Robinson, who spent 26 years on coaches, is building up a fleet of minibuses with wheelchair lifts for people who are unable to go out because of a shortage of suitable transport.
He said: "Apart from ambulances, only a few coachs and taxis have wheelchair facilities, which means many disabled people are unable to leave their homes."
He is starting with four vehicles, but expects that demand will require more when he expands across East Anglia.
He said: "Our service could range from visits to hospital to day outings or holidays for those in care homes."
The company, Boudicca Travel, starts operating this month from the Cowdray Centre.
