Detectives were today hunting an armed gang who bound and gagged a couple before stealing a large amount of cash.

The men forced their way into the couple's south Essex home, attacked the husband and wife and used a stun-gun on them to keep them subdued.

They then bound and gagged the man and woman, both in their 60s, before ransacking their house and escaping with what police described as a "substantial amount of money".

The incident happened in South Road, South Ockendon, on Tuesday evening when the gang, at least one was brandishing a gun, burst in to the house.

One man is described as tall, thin with sharp features and dark hair. He was about 40 years old.

The second man was 5ft 10ins, in his forties and had a slightly broader build and thickset with fair hair with glasses. He was wearing a grey suit. The third man was also in his forties. He was blond and stocky.

If anyone saw anything or have any information about the incident, they should call Grays police on 01375 391212.
