Despite high hopes, Thorpe Hall were unable to break the long standing inability to progress further than the early rounds of the Essex junior team championship for the Leslie Wood Trophy.
Playing Forester Park, near Maldon, the morning foursomes proved the killer, with Thorpe securing only half a point against the hosts' four and a half.
Winning five and a half singles in the afternoon was not enough and produced a nine - six defeat.
April's Stableford senior division produced three 34 point scores for John Lavery, vice-captain Tony Wright and Tony Walker. The first two were first and second on countback.
The junior division was won by Nigel Franklin with 39 points from Daryl Pearman with 38 points. Nigel's handicap is now 13.
The senior medal went to Russell Pudney, with a net 68, from Ian Hold-sworth with a net 72 and the junior division was won by Terry King, with a net 74, from Leonard Rice, with a net 75.
