Southend libraries as well as local schools are getting involved in "homework clubs" to help youngsters study for their exams.
After the Easter holidays, the new initiative Open Minds will be launched for youngsters aged between eight and 14. It is the first initiative of its kind in Southend.
The scheme is aimed at giving them the opportunity to take advantage of research equipment such as books, CD Roms and the internet outside normal school hours and with facilities not available at home.
It will operate from Mondays to Thursdays at both the Central Library in Victoria Avenue and Southchurch Library in Lifstan Way from 3.30pm until 6pm.
The club will be run on a drop in basis with no prior appointment necessary.
Trained study supporters will be available with a joining pack of goodies provided for all children.
