A campaign is promoting Braintree as a place for business and to give traders a greater voice in the town's affairs.

An appeal has been made to traders in Braintree to get involved in the Town Centre Traders Association, and co-ordinator John Jemison, of Phillers Sandwich bar, has been encouraged by the response so far.

He said: "We will offer Braintree traders new and exciting opportunities to improve Braintree as a place for shopping and other leisure activities, for marketing Braintree and improving its image among the buying public."

The association has actually been in existence for many years but is now being restarted in order to make the voice of traders heard on a variety of issues.

One of the aims of the association is for traders to work together with the council, the police and schools to help tackle anti-social behaviour and crime in the town centre.

It will help organise events, publicise the town's amenities, such as special markets, fashion shows and seasonal events, and ensure the traders have a means through which to communicate with Braintree Council.

The next meeting of the association will be held at Phillers in Little Square, Braintree, next Wednesday at 5.30pm.
